Dr. Wade Smith
Minister of Music email: wsmith@fbc-greenbrier.org
“I want to spend my life serving God and serving Him through music.” This is the conviction I felt in my heart when, as a teenager, I was seeking God’s direction for my life. Now I am fulfilling that calling … serving God through ministry to His Church using the gifts and abilities God has giving me. I believe music was given to man for the worship of God. No other medium leads us to worship intellectually, emotionally and physically as effectively as music. No other medium helps us to internalize Scripture and sound Christian doctrine as effectively as music. And no other medium breaks down stubborn resistance to the love of God as effectively as music. It is a gift of God.
Dr. Wade Smith has been serving First Baptist Church as Minister of Music since December of 2003. Wade moved to Greenbrier with his family (Gale, Chris and Josh) from Louisville, Kentucky, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Southern Baptist Seminary in 2001. He has also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas (Master of Music, 1991) and Austin Peay State University (Bachelor of Science, 1988).
Major areas of study include composition, piano, trombone and voice. These are reflected in his interests, as Wade continues to write music and regularly submits new works for publication. He is active in community groups, such as the Nashville Praise Symphony, the Robertson County Community Band and the Robertson County Choral Society. He also sings and plays trombone with the Tennessee Men’s Choral, a performance ministry of the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
Raised in Alpena, Michigan, Wade has served churches in: Alpena, Michigan (Pianist); Clarksville, Tennessee (Pianist); Grand Prairie, Texas (Minister of Music); Indianapolis, Indiana (Music and Youth); Elizabethton, Tennessee (Music and Youth); Henderson, Tennessee (Music and Youth); and Louisville, Kentucky (Minister of Music).
